About Erewash Sound Academy
The Erewash Sound Academy is the training and development arm of Erewash Sound, a radio station in the East Midlands. The Academy was formed in 2013 and was born out of their internal training programme, developed for the on-air team.
They provide a range of courses, in a state-of-the-art, industry standard training facilities in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, as well as online and at partner locations.
All of the courses are designed to be enjoyable, fun and interactive, using a blend of theoretical and practical learning in the sessions. Not only do students learn new skills, but the courses also improve confidence, communication, and increase employability prospects.
Many former students have gone on to find paid work in the media, including in commercial stations such as Capital, Heart, and the Hits Radio network, as well as BBC Local Radio and television.
A number of former students have also taken honours at the Community Radio Awards, with academy alumni winning in categories such as ‘Best Female’, ‘Best Male’, ‘Best Newcomer’ and ‘Young Person of the Year’.
The Facilities
Erewash Sound’s state-of-the-art, industry standard studios provide the perfect place to learn in a professional environment. There are two broadcast-ready radio studios, production areas and a training classroom all on site.
The building is fully accessible with a secure car park. The ‘two’ and ‘Ilkeston flyer’ bus routes pass by the studio from Nottingham and Derby, and it’s a five-minute drive from Ilkeston Railway Station.

They pride themselves on having friendly trainers who are passionate and knowledgeable about their subjects.
The fully DBS-checked team have many years of experience in media, working at brands including Capital, Heart, BBC Local Radio and much more. They all share an enjoyment for sharing their skills and real-world experiences.
